Memorial Pancakes and our First Group Photo

Today, our Battlefield tourism class assembled at the Memorial Avenue park dedicated to veterans. We wanted to formally begin our trip by reminding ourselves of why we are going: to commemorate, to learn, to explore Canada's place in history. The sign was dug out,  and we gathered around, unfurled a flag, and had our first official group picture taken.  Dr. Lemelin and fellow class member Sarah Shruiff spoke to local media about our background as a class and the many goals and expectations we have for our upcoming venture.

As we head into mere weeks before leaving for France and Holland, our class has now completed our first interviews, prepared for the research we will be engaging in, and are now preparing ourselves for departure.  Many of us have family connections, keepsakes, and personal investment in taking this trip together. Over our growing discussions of the what we will be doing and the places we will be visiting, we are now not only preparing for our physical journey, but preparing ourselves for the emotional and spiritual experiences we will be facing as a group and individually.

Here is our first post, and more to come!

An exciting, emotional moment. Our debrief took place shortly after at the Scand House, and was laden with appreciation and pancakes.

Only 28 days to go.
